STRUCTURAL AND SEMANTIC FEATURES OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF ONE-MEMBER SYNTACTIC CONSTRUCTIONS IN L. LEONOV’S TEXTS

Abstract

Each syntactical unit plays a role in creating connectedness of text in order to give it expressiveness and originality. The text should create a certain world, arouse feelings, reactions in the reader’s imagination. One way to achieve this aim is through the use of one-member impersonal sentences that help to focus on important concepts with great precision while avoiding ambiguity. The article is devoted to the study of structural and semantic features of the construction of impersonal one-member sentences in L. Leonov’s texts. The specific typology and structure of one-member sentences were determined, the basic means of expressing syntactic connection and semantic relations within the syntactic onemember structures were determined, the expressive and imaginative possibilities of impersonal sentences were investigated, and the productivity of available types of one-member sentences in L. Leonov’s texts in this scientific work. L. Leonov’s texts focus on the inner world of the hero, whose image requires the transmission of all the diversity of moods, impressions, experiences. Therefore, the writer uses almost all types of one-member sentences that allow him to analyze the psychological state of the characters in various ways. Emotional richness is marked by one-member impersonal sentences that help to focus readers’ attention on the actions, behavior of the main characters, as well as a clear means that enhances the connection with the reader, introduces him to the atmosphere of the text, projecting the hero’s features. Based on the analysis of linguistic material, we can say that impersonal sentences perform informative, expressive, evaluative (characterizing), pragmatic, compositional, text-forming functions in L. Leonov’s texts. The language of L. Leonov’s prose texts is the harmonious variety of grammatical, stylistic forms and their meanings. High semantic capacity, laconicism, special tension of one-member impersonal sentences make the writer’s syntax extremely expressive and expressive. The intrinsic expressive potential of impersonal one-member sentences provides a text-forming function. One-member impersonal sentences used by the author are characterized by a variety of meanings, variability of structural-semantic varieties and a diversity of stylistic functions performed by them and are used with specific expressive instructions. The analysis of impersonal one-member sentences in L. Leonov’s texts will be promising in further scientific explorations, which explore the comparative analysis of impersonal constructions on the material of works of other authors of the XX century.
