MODERNIST DISCOURSE IN THE ENGLISH LITERATURE OF THE FIRST DECADES OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY

The article analyses a modernist discourse in the literature of England at the beginning of the twentieth century. Attention is focused on the activities of the Bloomsbury Group, the schools of “Imagism” and “Vorticism”, in the context of which the ideological and aesthetic principles of English modernism had been formed. It is noted that in the first decades of the twentieth century, British literature, overcoming conservatism and isolation, had become one of the main factors of the European modernist movement.
