The article examines the problem of the influence of the process of teaching the subject «musical art» on the cognitive development of pupils. The purpose of the article is to clarify the specifics of the impact of the educational subject «musical art» on the cognitive sphere of the child based on the analysis, comparison and generalization of theoretical and practical experiences on the specified problem, as well as to determine the factors of increasing the effectiveness of the influence of educational methods on the cognitive development of pupils. The main tasks are defined as follows: to form the concepts of «cognitive development» and «cognitive skills», to analyze the key provisions of the main theory of cognitive cognition; to carry out an analysis of the main processes of music education from the point of view of the leading educational and cognitive activity. The research used theoretical and empirical methods. In the course of the research, theoretical and methodological sources on the research problem were analyzed, the leading types of educational activities in music lessons were practically are evaluated depending on their influence on the students' cognitive sphere, and the factors that determine the effectiveness of the educational impact of the music learning process on the cognitive development of pupils were determined. The analysis of the problem of cognitive development in the process of learning music allows us to note that musical learning of children is associated with an increase in sound sensitivity, as well as with the improvement of verbal abilities and general reasoning skills, which are examples of cognitive skills, and therefore a direct connection between learning music and effectiveness of educational activities as a whole. The novelty of the research lies in the study and application of the theory of cognitive learning in music lessons for the successful implementation of the educational process in educational institutions.
