FORMATION OF BASIC MATHEMATICAL CONCEPTS IN OLDER PRESCHOOL CHILDREN USING LEGO TECHNOLOGY METHODS AND TECHNIQUES

Abstract

The article addresses the issue of developing basic mathematical concepts in older preschool children as one of the key components of early childhood education. It emphasizes the age-specific developmental characteristics of children that determine the need for purposeful formation of concepts such as quantity, shape, size, spatial arrangement, and sequence. It is noted that the senior preschool age is a critical period for laying the foundation for successful acquisition of mathematics in primary school. In this context, the article substantiates the relevance of using LEGO technology as an effective means of integrating play, learning, and exploratory activity. Particular attention is given to the didactic potential of LEGO DUPLO sets which, due to their design features, offer wide opportunities for mastering mathematical content through hands-on actions, object manipulation, and modeling of situations. The article presents specific techniques for organizing activities with LEGO construction sets that foster the development of logical thinking, comparison, classification, seriation skills, and spatial awareness. The role of the educator is highlighted in creating a stimulating play-based environment and fostering positive learning motivation. The materials of the article may be useful for preschool teachers, methodologists, and students in the field of early childhood pedagogy.
