The article is devoted to the study of etymologically heterogeneous non-transpositional postpositive elements of the English language, which play an important role in its lexical system and reflect the historical processes of language development. The paper outlined the relevance of the problem raised. Particular attention was paid to the analysis of the origin of these elements, their structural specificity and functional load in Modern English vocabulary. The paper investigated the features of the formation of postpositive elements, which are examples of heterogeneous linguistic influences of relic languages, French and others. The article highlights theoretical approaches to the study of postpositive constructions, analyzes the most productive types of non-transpositional postpositive elements, their use in the contexts of various branches of modern life of English-speaking society. Analysis material allowed to establish that postpositive elements not only preserve historical grammatical models, but also demonstrate high adaptability in modern word formation, especially in specialized fields, such as medical, technical etc. It was found that etymologically heterogeneous word-forming elements perform an important semantic role, while maintaining a focus on clarifying the meaning of the main lexeme of the recipient language. The analysis revealed not only new elements that have appeared in the past few years and their ability to integrate into new areas of the lexicon, creating a number of lexical derivatives, but also the frequency using of already existing ones. It was concluded that the study of postpositive elements has prospects in expanding knowledge about linguistic borrowings, word-formation mechanisms and the evolution of the English. The results of the article can be used to create more accurate lexicons that take into account functional changes in words. In addition, the analysis allows for a better understanding of the processes of word formation in in specialized fields.
