Research data and openness

  1. Policy on Research Data

The journal supports the principles of open science and encourages authors to ensure transparency in research processes.

Authors are expected to provide sufficient information about the data used, as well as the methods of data processing and analysis, to enable other researchers to verify, reproduce, or build upon the reported results.

  1. Data Sharing and Access

The editorial board recommends that authors deposit their research data in open repositories that ensure long-term preservation and accessibility.

Such platforms include, but are not limited to:

  • Zenodo;
  • Figshare;
  • Open Science Framework;
  • other trusted scholarly repositories.

References to datasets should be included in the manuscript with persistent identifiers (e.g., DOI).

  1. Data Availability Statement

All manuscripts must include a separate section entitled “Data Availability Statement,” in which authors specify:

  • whether the data are available for verification and reuse;
  • where the data are deposited;
  • whether any access restrictions apply (for ethical, legal, or other reasons).

This section should be placed after the conclusions and before the reference list.

  1. FAIR Principles

The journal encourages authors to adhere to the FAIR principles
(Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable), which require ensuring:

  • data findability;
  • accessibility;
  • interoperability;
  • reusability.

Compliance with these principles enhances research quality and facilitates integration into the global scientific landscape.

  1. Sensitive Data and Ethical Constraints (CARE Principles)

When working with sensitive data (including personal, ethnographic, or data concerning vulnerable groups), authors must adhere to the CARE principles (Collective Benefit, Authority to Control, Responsibility, Ethics).

The requirement for data openness does not override the need to:

  • protect privacy;
  • comply with ethical standards;
  • adhere to applicable legislation;
  • consider security constraints, particularly in conditions such as martial law.

Where access restrictions apply, authors must provide appropriate justification in the manuscript and, where necessary, follow the Guidelines for Risk Assessment in Research Data Disclosure of Berdyansk State Pedagogical University (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18211044).
