This article explores the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) tools into English language instruction for students pursuing degrees in journalism, media production, publishing, and public relations. It highlights the urgent need to modernize traditional teaching approaches that often fail to address the real-world linguistic and communicative demands of the media profession. The purpose of the study is to examine the potential of contemporary digital technologies to enhance the development of professionally oriented language competences among future journalists. The article analyzes a range of AI-powered tools currently applied in education, including generative platforms for text creation, interview simulations, grammar and style correction systems, machine translation tools, and speech training applications. Particular attention is paid to the transformation of the teacher’s role, emphasizing the importance of digital and pedagogical competencies, ethical considerations, and support for students’ critical thinking and autonomy. The study proposes a model for integrating AI into language teaching that focuses on simulating authentic communicative scenarios relevant to journalistic practice. The benefits of using AI include personalized learning, automated feedback, gamification, interactivity, and the ability to model complex professional tasks. However, the research also addresses challenges such as decreased academic integrity, linguistic artificiality, limited digital literacy, overreliance on automated tools, and unequal access to technologies. The paper presents practical recommendations for applying AI in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses tailored to journalism students. The findings offer insights into how AI can be effectively and ethically used in higher education to support media-related language instruction and contribute to the advancement of innovative teaching methodology.
