STUDYING DENTAL TERMINOLOGY IN A UKRAINIAN AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE COURSE (BASED ON THE TOPIC «TEETH AND ORAL CAVITY: DISEASE PREVENTION AND TREATMENT»)

Abstract

The article discusses topical issues of teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language in higher medical educational institutions of Ukraine using the example of the topic «Teeth and oral cavity: disease prevention and treatment». It is noted that the effective formation of professional language competence of foreign students is an integral part of their professional training. It is determined that knowledge of dental terminology provides the opportunity to communicate in a professional environment and interact confidently with patients. The purpose of the article is to develop a methodology for the formation of Ukrainianlanguage professional competence of foreign students of medical universities through a system of exercises aimed at the gradual assimilation of dental terms. The development is based on the principles of subject-language integrated learning and the requirements of the State Language Standard «Ukrainian as a Foreign Language. Levels of General Proficiency A1-C2». A system of exercises aimed at developing terminological, grammatical and communicative competences has been developed. Particular attention is paid to tasks that simulate real situations of professional communication between a doctor and a patient. After testing the methodology in classes with 4th-year students at the I. Ya. Gorbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, an increase in the level of professional vocabulary acquisition, language confidence and communicative activity of students was recorded. The results of the study confirmed the effectiveness of the subject-language integrated approach in the formation of professional language competence of foreign students. The proposed system of exercises can be used in teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language at medical universities, as well as for creating teaching materials and electronic resources aimed at mastering dental terminology.
