The issue of forming value orientations among young people is important at the stage of modern social development for independent Ukraine. The process of forming social maturity and life choices of young people occurs in all important spheres of human life and is implemented through education, upbringing, assimilation of the experience of older generations. The main socio-psychological regulator of this process and at the same time an indicator of the position of young people in society are value orientations. The education system of Ukraine has been undergoing transformation for a long time, the purpose of which is to modernize general and vocational education in accordance with the needs of a developing society. Innovative processes in the general education system have affected many of its aspects, including philosophical, educational and pedagogical. The existing mechanism for improving education in Ukraine, taking into account the prospects for its post-war reconstruction, is associated with the search for new ways to renew educational processes at all levels, as well as from the position of various ideas of humanist thinkers, such as G. Skovoroda. This is primarily due to the fact that in pedagogy, the moral development of students has always been considered one of the central links in the holistic development of the individual. In addition, personal values play an important role in the adoption of approaches to learning by students during their studies [1, p. 102]. Since the issue is quite relevant, a sufficient number of studies in pedagogy and psychology are devoted to this topic. The need to evaluate the ideas of G. Skovoroda regarding the development of value orientations of the individual in the philosophical-pedagogical and pedagogical discourse of independent Ukraine is due to several main reasons. Namely: at the socio-pedagogical level, scientific-theoretical level and scientific-methodological level. The system of value orientations determines the substantive aspects of the orientation of the individual, forms the basis of his relations with the surrounding world, with other people and with himself, forms the basis of the worldview, the essence of the motivation of life and the basis of the life outlook or «philosophy of life».G. Skovoroda laid the foundations of Ukrainian philosophical thought and influenced the development of literature and pedagogy. His philosophy, literary works and educational ideas continue to inspire new generations of Ukrainians. The primary reason for this is that it is the humanist thinker G. Skovoroda who puts human well-being and morality at the center of his teachings, since for him a true person is an internally integrated being.Studying the works of the great philosopher helps not only to understand the history of Ukrainian thought, but also to more deeply realize the meaning of life. Thus, further highlighting and evaluating the ideas of G. Skovoroda's work on the development of value orientations of the individual in the philosophical-pedagogical and pedagogical discourse of independent Ukraine is necessary and timely.
