Abstract

The article addresses the pressing issue of mastering Latin medical terminology in higher medical education, which arises from the extensive volume of specialized vocabulary, limited classroom hours, and the necessity for precise professional communication. Latin remains a fundamental component of medical education, forming the basis of anatomical, clinical, and pharmaceutical terminology, thus requiring effective instructional strategies. The purpose of the study is to analyze and systematize teaching methods that enhance long-term retention of Latin medical terms among medical students. Particular attention is paid to the use of mnemonic techniques, associative learning, visual aids, structured written exercises, flashcards, and game-based activities. The study also emphasizes the importance of interdisciplinary connections, especially with clinical subjects and the English language, as a means of reinforcing lexical comprehension and practical application. The research methodology includes theoretical analysis and synthesis of scientific and methodological sources, pedagogical observation, descriptive and comparative methods, as well as the generalization of practical teaching experience in Latin medical terminology. The findings suggest that an integrated approach combining classical teaching methods with innovative educational tools significantly improves students’ ability to memorize and accurately use Latin terminology. The article concludes that consistent practice, student-centered learning, and the instructor’s methodological flexibility play a crucial role in developing sustainable terminological competence. Such an approach not only facilitates academic success but also supports the formation of professional thinking essential for future medical practice.
